KOINOBORI Community Workshop
🎏 Free, all-ages community workshop – contribute to the Community Koinobori and help paint the Community Dragon!
Join artist Teruko Nimura, City of Tacoma Environmental Services Artist in Residence, for a creative gathering that celebrates reuse, sustainability, and cultural storytelling.
Participants will create traditional Japanese Koinobori (carp streamers) from upcycled materials and contribute to a collaborative dragon sculpture—symbols of resilience, transformation, and shared environmental responsibility.
Additional creative activities for all ages will be available.

The completed Koinobori and community dragon will be displayed at the South Sound Sustainability Expo on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at Tollefson Plaza near the UW Tacoma campus.
Presented in partnership with Tacoma Public Library and Remakery Tacoma, this workshop is part of the Upstream Together initiative, inviting the community to explore the power of creative reuse, the value of shared effort, and the importance of sustainable practices.
